Own a van? Here's how to fill your downtime without giving up your business

One platform to run your business, plus optional work to fill the gaps

If you own a van and run your own jobs, you already know the real problem isn't the work — it's the gaps between it. A vehicle is an asset. Every day it sits still, it's still costing you: financing, insurance, depreciation, the maintenance clock ticking whether you drove or not. In this economy, those idle hours and empty days hit harder than ever, and the cash-flow gaps between contracts are real. The instinct is to find more work. The catch is that most ways of finding it ask you to give up something in return — your independence, a cut of your own revenue, or control of your own customers.

This is about a different model: one where you keep everything you've built, and simply fill the gaps on your own terms.

The gig-platform trap, and why this isn't that

Let's be direct about the fear, because it's a fair one. Owner-operators who've dealt with gig platforms know the pattern — you become a replaceable courier on someone else's app, the platform sits between you and the customer, and the work comes with strings. That's not what this is.

We're not here to be your only source of work. We're here to add to the business you already run, and to make managing it easier and more optimised — all in one place. The gigs we send are entirely optional. We would never force anyone to take work they don't want, because this is genuine subcontracting: you're a business owner we partner with, not an employee we dispatch. You keep your own jobs, your own customers, and 100% of the revenue from the work you already do. Dubs is fill, not dependence.

What you get for free — before we ever send you a job

The starting point isn't the extra work. It's the platform. As a partner, you run your existing operation on DubOS at no cost — the same system Dubs uses to run its own fleet. That means real tools, not a stripped-down app:

  • Real-time vehicle tracking

  • Employee and shift management

  • Availability postings

  • Improved payroll

  • Operational analytics

  • A digital ajopäiväkirja (driver's log)

  • CSRD-ready emissions reporting

  • and more being added over time

The point is value before any commitment. You can use the software to run your own jobs better whether or not you ever take a single gig from us. That's deliberate — it's how we'd want to be treated if the roles were reversed.

How the work itself fits

Right now, the extra work we offer is task-based — discrete jobs that slot into the downtime you choose to make available, without a minimum commitment and without touching your own schedule. As our network grows and more partners join, we're building toward more types of work to introduce across the network. The model is designed to expand with the people in it, so the more the network fills out, the more there is to go around.

There's no lock-in and no minimum. You post the availability you want to fill, and the rest of your calendar stays yours.

One practical note on how you're set up

If you're doing this seriously and regularly, it's worth making sure your business structure fits. Operating as a registered sole trader (toiminimi) or a limited company (osakeyhtiö) tends to give you cleaner invoicing, proper deductions on your vehicle and fuel costs, and more stability as your income grows — advantages that matter more the more you work. It's not a requirement to start a conversation with us, but it's a sensible thing to sort out with an accountant if you're planning to build this into a real income stream rather than an occasional top-up.

The short version

You built your own operation. The goal here isn't to replace it — it's to make the days it would otherwise sit idle actually earn, while giving you better tools to run everything in one place. Keep your business, keep your revenue, use the software for free, and take the extra work only when it suits you.

If that sounds like the kind of partnership you'd actually want, become a driver here.
